Our Research Agenda

As Singaporeans live longer and healthier lives, how can the country unlock new opportunities, and create new ways of working for a more inclusive and sustainable future?

Dedicated to the building of resilient and inclusive communities filled with Opportunities for all, SMU Longevity Societies and Economies Institute (LSEI) will advance knowledge on how societies and economies can thrive, adapt and grow in the era of longevity.

Singapore must act decisively to manage longevity through integrated system redesign: Micro-jobs drawing on seniors’ strengths, experience and interest; a small income to encourage spending on themselves to stay healthy and happy; and to live with purpose. Successful longevity will ensure Singapore’s sustainability, and of cities across Asia who are also ageing.

What matters isn’t years lived but life infused with purpose. Many seniors stay self-reliant and keep contributing beyond retirement. We must continue to empower them to take charge. With good health, enriched community ties, and support, Singapore’s young old can uplift older seniors — transforming longevity into a powerful, collective national strength.
